Finish Options

We offer three finishes to choose from. They are very different from each other in look, function, and feel.

1. Our standard finish is an extremely hard permanent finish that comes in both a satin sheen and a matt. It is the ideal finish for most countertop uses. It completely seals the wood protecting it from staining and water damage. Because it's so hard it's also scratch resistant and heat resistant. It will never peel, needs little maintenance, and does not take away from the woods natural texture or look. If repairs do become necessary the new finish melts into the old finish producing an invisible repair. This is the finish recommended for use on countertops which will have sinks cut into them due to its extremely high level of water resistance. This finish never needs re-applied.

Note: We do offer a matt finish of this same kind. It is even duller than our satin finish for those who want the more natural look but want to keep the protective attributes of the standard satin finish.

2. Tung-oil is an optional finish. It has good stain and water resistance and is easy to repair. This finish has a more natural look than our satin finish and is not as protective. This finish needs re-applied once or twice a year depending on use and its climate.

3. Our third finish is a mineral oil finish. It is recommended for countertops that will be used as food prep chopping blocks and is the only finish that is food safe certified. It will stain and is not water resistant. A food safe butchers wax or mineral oil will need to be applied 6-12 times per year.
